New Delhi: Former India captain and star Dempo Sports Club midfielder Climax Lawrence, on Tuesday, was slapped with a two-match suspension by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for offensive on-field behaviour during the I-League match against East Bengal.
Under the rule, Climax is not permitted to appeal against the decision and will have to sit out in the next two matches, an AIFF official said.
During the East Bengal-Dempo match on November 3 at Calcutta, the video evidence showed Climax moving threateningly towards the referee after a decision went against the Goa team. On Tuesday, the AIFF also decided to ignore the clubs’ plea to allow more foreigners to play in the I-League and the Federation Cup.
The Santosh Trophy will be held in Uttar Pradesh and Kerala in February and March. The final is likely to be on March 10. The AIFF elections will be held on December 20.
