The stage has been set for another competitive season, in Mumbai, beginning Tuesday. The season, originally scheduled to start from last Sunday, was postponed owning to the sad demise of Balasaheb Thackeray.
A total of about Rs 16.3 crore, has been marked as prize-money, for the season, of which nearly Rs 3 crore will be been kept aside for the Indian Derby, the most glamorous event on the country’s racing circuit, billed for February 3, next year.
There will be 11 ‘Million’ and ‘Multi-Million’ events during the 43-day season, and a hoard of sponsors are expected to contribute in-excess of Rs 7.5 crore in prize money.
The opening day’s nine event card does carry a poor look in terms of entries but things are bound to improve as the season progresses. The day one feature, the Maharaja Morvi Trophy, may see trainer Karthik Ganapathy’s Maple Star (Liam Jones-up) winning the race.
