St Francis, Kamrup Academy win

Guwahati, Nov. 19: Kamrup Academy Higher Secondary School and St Francis D’Assisi Senior Secondary registered wins in their respective matches of the 7th All Assam Parijat Mazumdar and Rooby Group inter-school (under-14) cricket tournament at Latasil ground here today.

While Kamrup Academy overcame Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti by three wickets, St Francis D’Assisi beat Modern English School by seven wickets in the third and fourth quarter-final matches today.

In the morning match, put in to bat, Sarala Birla were all out for 103 in 19.3 overs and Kamrup Academy achieved the target losing seven wickets in 19 overs. Sanjeev Kumar of Kamrup Academy, who scalped three for 10 and scored 25 runs, was adjudged Man of the Match.

In the afternoon, Modern School elected to bat and were bundled out for 126 in 19.4 overs. In reply, St Francis reached 128 for three in 19.2 overs. Surinder Singh, who scored 22 for St Francis after having notched up three wickets for 17 runs, was named Man of the Match.

Bronze medal: Assam shuttlers Kautav Deka and Ningshi Block Hazarika bagged a bronze medal in 37th inter-state and inter-zonal junior national badminton championship that concluded in Imphal on Sunday.

NE media fest: The 4th North East Media Sports Festival will get under way with the Raishmodi Nunisa inter-media six-a-side cricket tournament at Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.

Altogether 22 teams are participating in the cricket tournament. The eight-day festival also includes inter-media table tennis, badminton, football and chess.
