Great Eastern

Great Eastern will soon be back on the city’s hospitality map. “We are delighted to bring back the Great Eastern Calcutta, expectedly in 2013,” announced Jyotsna Suri, the chairperson and MD of the Lalit Suri Hospitality group, the custodian of the 171-year-old hotel. Spread across 2.3 acres, the hotel will offer 221 rooms, 21 deluxe suites, two presidential suites, besides a ballroom, two speciality restaurants (including the Maxim’s bakery). Rebranded as the Lalit Great Eastern, it will have a “heritage block” and another offering contemporary hospitality experience. ommissioned in 1840, it was called Auckland, after the British governor-general Lord Auckland. The hotel changed hands in 2005 and the Suri group acquired 90 per cent stake at Rs 52 crore from the state government.

Air India fare

Air India has announced a promotional fare scheme for travel on domestic sectors from Calcutta, between January 16 and March 13. The sale is on from November 19 to 21. The one-way fares under this scheme, inclusive of taxes, range from Rs 1,799 to Rs 4,199.
