Indira poster puzzles Pyari

Bhubaneswar, Nov. 18: Mysterious posters with pictures of the late Indira Gandhi and expelled BJD leader Pyari Mohan Mohapatra appeared in Balangir and parts of Kalahandi.

In the posters, there was an appeal to the people to extend support to the Odisha Jan Morcha’s rally at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district on Monday. The posters stated that the rally was being organised on the 95th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Mohapatra said it might be the work of some anti-social elements in the BJD. “They are trying to project the Morcha as the B-team of the Congress. Earlier, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had termed the Morcha as the B-team of Congress. We are not the B-team of any party. People from all parties are coming in a big way to join the Morcha. They are scared of our rising popularity,” said Mohapatra.

On the other hand, senior Congress leader Narasingha Mishra said: “It might be the work of any party, including the BJD, the Morcha or others. Police should conduct an inquiry. The name and address of the printing press is not mentioned in the poster.”

However, BJD leaders said it was the work of Mohapatra himself. “Since Mohapatra floated his outfit, he is trying all sorts of tactics to be seen on television and in the print media,” said panchayati raj minister Kalpataru Das.

Preparations have almost reached the final stage for the Morcha rally. Big posters carrying photographs of Biju Patnaik and Mohapatra have been pasted all over Bhawanipatna town. The BJD leadership is also keeping a close watch on the rally. It would be Mohapatra’s first rally after being expelled from the BJD last week.

The BJD also concluded a series of meetings at Bhawanipatna yesterday, where they dissuaded people from attending the Morcha rally on Monday.
