Taliban mail gaffe
Washington, Nov. 18 (PTI): The Taliban have mistakenly revealed their mailing list, which included email addresses of many top members of the militant outfit and journalists.
a Taliban spokesperson sent out a routine email on Saturday, he publicly “CC’d” the names of everyone on his mailing list instead of using the “BCC” function to keep the addresses hidden.
The names were disclosed in an email by Qari Yousuf Ahmedi. The addresses include that of a provincial governor, an Afghan legislator, several academics and activists and an Afghan consultative committee.
Poker police
London (PTI): The entire team of police officers in a south-east London neighbourhood has been axed after a probe found they had been playing poker and cleaning golf clubs while on duty. The dismissal followed an undercover operation by the Metropolitan Police’s Directorate of Professional Standards in 2010. Disciplinary proceedings concluded on October 23.
Japan poll
Tokyo (Reuters): Japan’s Opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) maintained its lead over the ruling party, an opinion poll has showed. The poll strengthens the party’s case to reclaim control of the government in a December poll after a three-year absence.
Saudi surgery
Riyadh (Reuters): Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah has undergone successful back surgery at a hospital in Riyadh, to tighten a loose ligament, the royal court said.
