Road wash on Chhath
B>n The civic body will wash the main roads in east and central Calcutta on Monday morning on the occasion Chhath Puja. Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said the decision had been taken because women perform a ritual of lying prone on the road on Chhath.
Witness
B>nPintu Dhar, the nephew and prime witness in the murder of environment activist Tapan Dutta in Howrah, was declared out of danger on Friday. Dhar was stabbed on Thursday night by an unidentified man at the same spot where Dutta had been murdered, a level crossing near Bally station, in May.
utta’s wife Pratima lodged a complaint with Bally police station on Friday, alleging that Dhar had been repeatedly threatened not to depose in the case.

Suicide
B>nNitesh Kishore, 22, a BPO employee, was found hanging in the Jadavpur room where he stayed as a paying guest on Friday. Kishore was originally from Patna. His roommate found his body in the morning and alerted others. No suicide note was found. Police sent the body for post-mortem and started an unnatural death case.
