No-show protest
Several people with tickets to a musical night with Tollywood stars, which was allegedly scheduled to be held at Nicco Park on Thursday, staged a demonstration after they learnt that no such event was to be organised. They alleged they had bought tickets for Rs 100 each from mobile vans and temporary stalls set up at various places on the city fringes. The park authorities later lodged a complaint of forgery with Bidhannagar South police station against Nishan Entertainment Private Limited, which was the organiser of the show, according to the tickets.
Rape arrest
A resident of Kalighat Road was arrested for allegedly raping an eight-year-old on Thursday afternoon. The victim’s mother alleged that her daughter was raped near the Kalighat temple.
Accidents
Assistant sub-inspector (traffic) Ashish Chakraborty, 55, died after a lorry ran him over on Durgapur Expressway near Chanditala in Hooghly on Thursday. The lorry hit him when he tried to stop it for violating a no-entry sign.
iazul Haq, 28, died after a trailer hit his motorbike on Central Garden Reach Road on Thursday. Haq was riding the bike towards Kidderpore without a helmet. |
