New Delhi: Dempo SC coach Armando Colaco on Wednesday was showcaused by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for trying to enter the pitch forcibly during his team’s I-League match against East Bengal at the Salt Lake Stadium earlier this month.
A former national coach, Colaco is currently in the capital for his team’s I-League tie against ONGC, to be played here, on Friday.
Considered the most successful coach in the I-League history, Colaco has been given one-week time to reply to the showcause.
The ill-tempered I-League tie that ended in a 1-1 draw on November 3, also saw Colaco accusing the referee of denying his team a spot-kick.
AIFF sources said the matter could also be send to the disciplinary committee. An adverse remark from the committee might see the Dempo coach being banned for a few matches.
Sources said both match commissioner Gulab Chauhan and fourth referee Raktim Saha had mentioned in their reports that the Dempo coach left the technical area and tried to enter the turf while protesting against a decision of the referee.
Asked about his reaction to the incident, the Dempo coach said he will quit coaching if the charge is proved against him.
“I did not want to enter the pitch to disrupt the match,” said Colaco.
“There were some problems between the players and the referee and all I wanted to to do was play the peacemakerů That is my duty as a coach.,” added the coach.
