MLA gets threat calls

Paradip: Police have registered a case against an unidentified person, who had allegedly made threat calls to Jagatsinghpur MLA Bishnu Das from a mobile phone on Tuesday night. Das alleged that the caller had used abusive language and threatened to kill him. “Attempts are being made by my opponents to demoralise me because of my growing popularity,” he said. He also said that around the same time, an ambulance belonging to Biju Helpline, an organisation floated by him, was attacked in Cuttack city.

Bandh

Berhampur: Life was affected in Kandhamal district after the Joint Action Committee observed a 48-hour bandh protesting against appointment of sikshya sahayaks in the district. The organisation has demanded that only local residents from the district should be appointed. All shops and business establishments closed their shutters and vehicles kept off the roads in Phulbani, Tikabali, Raikia and Chakapada.

Campaign

Sambalpur: Schoolchildren here on Wednesday demanded cleaner water bodies. Nearly 250 children gathered at Kacheri ghat of Mahanadi river and formed a human chain along the river. The water initiatives of Odisha in collaboration with Utsarga, a social organisation, had organised the campaign.
