The inauguration of an art gallery on the Rabindra Sarobar premises, scheduled for Wednesday, had to be cancelled at the last minute because chief minister Mamata Banerjee apparently wants to open it herself.
According to initial plans, urban development minister Firhad Hakim was to inaugurate the gallery, named Warehouse by the Lake.
The first exhibition would have started on Friday but it, too, has been indefinitely postponed, said a source.
“We got to know on Tuesday that the inauguration had been put off,” said a Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority official. “The chief minister wants to inaugurate it.”
As of now, there is no word on when the gallery will finally open. Hakim will leave for London on Thursday and return on November 22. “Hopefully the inauguration will happen after that,” said an official.
