Pandal blaze
Calcutta: A Kali puja pandal at Naihati in North 24-Parganas was damaged in a fire on Thursday evening. The organisers said the fire could have been caused by a firecracker. Six fire tenders brought the blaze, which began at 9pm, under control in three hours. The visitors who were inside the pandal when the jute decor caught fire rushed out. No one was injured.
Puja arrests
Calcutta: Police arrested 829 people in Calcutta on Tuesday on the charge of bursting banned crackers. They seized 573kg of banned crackers.
Baby charred
Chinsurah: A three-year-old boy burnt to death in his sleep on Wednesday night after the bed caught fire from a kerosene lamp at Shankarpur in Hooghly. Neighbours said the boy’s mother was watching TV while the boy was asleep in another room.
Shop theft
Calcutta: Over Rs 1 lakh in cash was allegedly stolen from a general store in Sonarpur on Tuesday.

Computer fire
Calcutta: A computer room in an office on Sarat Bose Road, opposite Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan, caught fire on Wednesday evening. The fire was put out by three fire engines. No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained.

Behrampore: Over 160 people, including a Congress gram panchayat pradhan, were arrested in Behrampore onWednesday night on the charge of gambling.
