DPS drub Gyan Jyoti

Guwahati, Nov. 13: An unbeaten century by opener Niraj Sarma helped guide Delhi Public School to a nine-wicket win over Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti in a group league match of the 3rd Sitaram Agarwala inter-school under-17 cricket tournament, organised by Bud Cricket Club, at Judges Field here.

Niraj, who was later adjudged the Man of the Match, struck 113 off just 95 balls. Abhimanyu Mimin, who compiled a sedate 59 off 69 deliveries, supported him at the other end. The duo helped DPS get past the target with relative ease, posting 208 for one in just 29.1 overs.

For Sarala Birla, offie Vidit Agarwal bagged one wicket for 26 runs in eight overs.

Earlier, Sarala Birla posted 205 for nine in 40 overs. Opener Jeet Kalita, however, played a sluggish innings of 48 from as many as 82 balls. Number four batsman Rahul Agarwal and opener Manjit Choudhury contributed 27 and 24 runs respectively.

For DPS, pace bowler Bishal Mahanta bagged three wickets for 36 in seven overs. He was supported by Swapnil Bhowmik, Hillol Talukdar, Duke Das and Hashmi R. Islam who took a wicket each to restrict the opposition to a run rate of a fraction over five per over.

Tomorrow, Dantin Academy will take on Faculty HS School.
