Top official banned for 5 years

Guwahati, Nov 12: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has put its joint secretary Bishnu Ram Nunisa under suspension for five years on charges of “indiscipline and behaviour unbecoming of his position” leading to a ruckus in the ACA office here on September 29.

Disclosing this to the media here today, ACA secretary Bikash Baruah said, “It pains me a lot to announce that the disciplinary sub-committee of the ACA has pronounced a five-year suspension for Nunisa. A probe was conducted by the panel and it had initially recommended life ban for him. However, it was later decided to reduce the penalty to five years as he has accepted his wrongdoing and apologised for it.”

“The disciplinary sub-committee decision will have to be ratified by the governing body where he will have the right to appeal for reducing the period of suspension further,” Baruah added. Nunisa has been accused of creating a scene at the ACA office in the presence of president Gautam Roy, secretary Baruah and treasurer Ghanashyam Boruah on September 29.

“It was not the first time. He had been habitually doing it for some time and it had been reported verbally every time. This time, things could not be overlooked as there were written complaints,” the ACA secretary added.

Nunisa, who did not answer his phone today, had earlier said he went there for regular discussions .
