Blast kills two in Imphal

Imphal, Nov. 12: Two civilians were killed in a powerful bomb blast that took place near Imphal College at Kwakeithel, on the outskirts of Imphal city along the Imphal-Airport Road, this evening.

This is the sixth time in the past two months that bombs had exploded in the area.

Police said the bomb — an improvised explosive device (IED) — exploded shortly after 5pm, killing two civilians — Alin Kom, 40 and Chumpa Kom, 20. Alin died on the spot while the other died at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences here shortly after he was brought in a critical condition.

The two were construction labourers and were passing through the area, which was on their way to their rented house located at Sangaiprou in Imphal East, after their work.

The two hailed from Sagang of Churachandpur district.

The police said militants had planted the bomb.

The police said no security vehicle or foot patrol was there at the time of the explosion, adding that they are investigating the incident.

Neither has anyone been arrested nor any claim has been made by any militant outfit, taking responsibility for the explosion.
