Surprise check at Chas jail

Bokaro, Nov. 12: It was inspection time at Chas jail today.

Two hours after Chas SDO Sanjay Singh and DSP B. Kullu went for a surprise check at the prison, where several Maoists and underworld gangsters are lodged, Bokaro DC Sunil Kumar and SP Kuldeep Dwivedi joined in.

Though the team did not find any banned or objectionable item, several loopholes like absence of CCTV cameras and phone jammers did draw the attention of the two senior officials. Notably, funds were allotted months ago but CCTV cameras and jammers are yet to be set up due to unavailability of administrative clearance from the home and jail departments.

ďNecessary directions have been issued to beef up security. We also sought explanations as to what was causing the delay in installation of CCTVs even after funds have been issued,Ē said Kumar.
