Bomb scare at airport
black cotton bag lying near the international terminal of the city airport triggered a bomb scare on Monday morning. Some passengers detected the bag around 10am and alerted cops. Personnel from the bomb detection and disposal squad found some clothes and business cards inside the bag.
Allowance: Over 14,000 temporary workers engaged by the Calcutta Municipal Corporation under the 100-day work scheme will get a Puja allowance of Rs 1,000 each on Wednesday. The civic body took the decision after chief minister Mamata Banerjee had promised them festival allowance like regular CMC employees last week. The bonus is expected to cost the civic body around Rs 1.5 crore.
Accident: A middle-aged man was run over by a lorry on Diamond Harbour Road early on Monday. The man was declared dead at SSKM Hospital. The driver has been arrested.
Feared drowned: Howrah resident Rahul Shaw, 17, is feared drowned in the Hooghly on Monday after he had gone to the Fairlie ghat for a bath. The body is yet to be found.
