Roach trick

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 10 (PTI): A schoolboy landed in trouble yesterday after in a bid to extract money he put a fried cockroach in a biryani bought from a hotel.

The teen after eating half the biryani started shouting that there was a cockroach in his food. The hotel owner got suspicious after the boy said he would settle the case for Rs 1,000. On being grilled by police, he admitted to putting the insect to earn money.

Salary hike

Ranchi (PTI): The Jharkhand government has hiked the salary of the state women’s commission’s chairperson and its members by more than double. The chairperson’s salary was increased to Rs 70,380 from Rs 24,700. The salary hike decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister.

BSP rape slur

Muzaffarnagar (PTI): A 17-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and gangraped on Friday by three persons, including a BSP MLA’s son, police said. The victim has named Naeem, son of BSP MLA Maulana Jameel Ahmad; Nauman, the MLA’s brother-in-law, and a third person in her complaint.

Fishermen

Islamabad (PTI): Pakistan will free 15 Indian fishermen, who were arrested for violating the country’s maritime boundary, on Monday. Some of the fishermen have completed their jail terms. The men will be taken to the Wagah border before being repatriated.

Diplomat plea

Bangalore (PTI): French diplomat Pascal Mazurier, arrested for allegedly raping his daughter, has sought a copy of the reports of the DNA test that were conducted on the blood and semen samples collected from him. The test had revealed that the stains on the victim’s dress matched that of the accused.

Tribal death

Sagar (PTI): A tribal woman allegedly set herself ablaze after being harassed by upper caste youths, Madhya Pradesh police said. The victim’s relative alleged that three upper caste youths of her village regularly harassed her and on Friday they tried to molest her after entering her house.

Bomb scare

Mumbai, Nov. 10 (PTI): A Delhi-bound GoAir flight returned to an isolated bay tonight after the pilot informed the air traffic control of a bomb scare, an airport spokesperson said.

He added that all passengers were de-boarded, even as the security agencies carried out checks on the cargo before the plane was shifted to an isolated parking. Dog squads have been deployed to detect any explosives.

Milk raids

Aligarh (PTI): Food and Drug Authority officials have seized synthetic milk and spurious edible oil during raids conducted in the past two weeks from Aligarh and the adjoining districts.

Rape case

Mumbai (PTI): Police probing the rape of a Spanish musician have recovered from the accused’s residence money and valuables stolen from the victim. The woman left for her country on Saturday.
