Siliguri, Nov. 8: All 17 Left Front councillors at the Siliguri Municipal Corporation will file a case in Calcutta High Court seeking the removal of Nantu Paul from the post of civic chairman.
Darjeeling district Left Front convenor Asok Bhattacharya said the case would be filed after Diwali and the secretary of the state municipal affairs and urban development department would also be made a respondent.
The Left would also plead with the court to act against the SMC commissioner for not taking up the no-trust motion against Paul.
“The Left councillors had submitted a letter to SMC commissioner P.D. Pradhan last month, expressing no confidence against Paul following his switch from the Congress to Trinamul. But the commissioner hasn’t taken any step to discuss the no-trust motion and we feel this is because he has succumbed to political pressure,” said Bhattacharya.
“The commissioner cannot evade his responsibility, as it’s his duty to call the meeting to discuss the motion according to municipal rules. So, a meeting of the Darjeeling district Left Front held today resolved to approach the high court after Diwali against Paul, the commissioner and the secretary of the urban development department,” he said.
Bhattacharya said the secretary of the municipal affairs department was also responsible for the delay in taking up the no-trust motion.
