Forger arrested

A 25-year-old woman was arrested late on Thursday by officers of Electronic Complex police station in Sector V for allegedly forging documents to get aid from a state government fund meant for economically backward people. Bipasha Basu, a resident of Dankuni, had allegedly forged medical bills worth Rs 70,000 since 2006 and withdrawn the amount from the fund.

Metro order

Metro Railway has asked passengers not to carry firecrackers and other inflammable objects on trains and also prevent co-passengers from carrying any such object. “In case a passenger notices another carrying crackers or any other inflammable object, he should inform the station staff or RPF personnel,” states an official release.

Snatcher aide

Shahnaz Khan alias Tinku, an associate of Faiaz Ahmed, the prime accused in the recent snatching at Bhowanipore, was arrested late on Thursday. Faiaz had been arrested on Monday and another associate, Naushad, the day after.

Stone murder

Khokon, a pavement dweller on Rabindra Sarani in the Posta area, was found dead on Friday morning. Injury marks on his body suggested he had been hit several times with a stone, said police. The cops also found a stone near the body and arrested two pavement dwellers — Alauddin and Gopal — for allegedly killing him.

Death

Frost Daniel Barrett, 27, a British citizen, was found dead in his room at Central Point Guest House on Mirza Ghalib Street on Friday. Efforts are on to contact his family.
