New Delhi: The international friendly between India and Yemen was cancelled on Thursday after the visitors informed about their inability to play the match.
The match was scheduled to be played at Guwahati on Wednesday.
The AIFF has notified all the players, including Portugal-based Sunil Chetri, about Yemen’s decision.
The Indian captain was scheduled to arrive in India on Monday.
“We have no idea why Yemen cancelled the match at the last moment,” said an AIFF official.
“All that we received from them was an e-mail. It said the tickets were cancelled because of some problems with the airlines,” he said.
All attempts to reach the Yemen officials proved futile as none of them took phone calls from India.
The national football federations of Bangladesh, Maldives and Nepal were contacted to find a last minute replacement but none of them available at such a short notice.
India are currently ranked 169 in the Fifa rankings. Yemen are 162.
The cancelled tie would have been India’s last international friendly in the calendar year.
