Several south-bound trains from Howrah have been cancelled or rescheduled in the wake of Cyclone Nilam that hit Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu last week.
The 11.45pm Chennai Mail and the 10.20pm Ranchi Hatia Express were cancelled on Monday. The trains that were to reach Howrah from Chennai and Ranchi had been cancelled on Sunday.
The Falaknuma Express to Secunderabad, which was to leave Howrah at 7.25am on Tuesday, will leave at 4.10pm. The Falaknuma Express was delayed on Monday as well. The Coromandel Express to Chennai and the Howrah-Kanyakumari Express were both delayed by over 12 hours.
“Several trains had to be diverted because of flooding. The normal route had been restored on Sunday afternoon,” said Soumitra Majumdar, spokesperson, South Eastern Railway.
Several trains arrived in Howrah hours late on Monday because of the disruption.
Robbery: A gang robbed cash and jewellery together worth over Rs 2 lakh from a trader’s flat and a private firm’s office, both housed in a two-storeyed building near Baguiati. The break-in apparently occurred on Saturday or Sunday night when the family of Kamal Das was away and the office closed.
