Calcutta: Mohammedan Sporting striker David Sunday sustained a head injury during the side’s Calcutta Football League Premier Division match against Police AC at the Salt Lake Stadium on Friday. The match ended goalless.
The incident happened in the twelfth minute of the match, when Sunday, involved in an aerial tussle with a rival defender, tried to head home a corner. However, while he was landing, his head hit the bar and he became unconscious.
He was soon rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared to be out of danger. But, as a precautionary measure, he has been kept under observation for 24 hours.
The match was a drab affair with both the sides lacking in purpose. Such was the dismal performance of Mohammedan Sporting that they even failed to score after Police AC were reduced to a 10-men army after Kaushik Das saw two yellow cards.
