Hospital at any cost: minister

Raiganj, Nov. 2: Deepa Das Munshi today told a meeting of farmers in Panishala that she would get the AIIMS-like hospital built here at “any cost” and would bring Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to lay its foundation stone by March next year.

The new Union minister of state for urban development spoke to people in her constituency Raiganj for the first time after taking oath.

Deepa told about 60-odd farmer families : “Kono shakti ke aaposh korbona. Panishala tei AIIMS korbo. Je bhabe hok. (I will not bend before any force. I will get AIIMS made in Panishala. At any cost).

“Before March, I will invite Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to lay the foundation stone for the hospital,” she said.

Among the farmers who had assembled in Panishala to assure Deepa that they were ready to give land was Mohammad Rafiq, who owned about six bighas and Mohammad Alam who has four bighas. They said they were willing to sell their land. “A few months ago officials of NHAI came to buy land for expansion of NH34. They offered Rs 40-50 lakh. If we are offered this price we will sell our land,” Alam said.

Around 100 acres are required to set up the hospital.
