Graft slur on army officer

Shillong, Nov. 1: The CBI has filed a chargesheet against an assistant garrison engineer (independent), Umroi military station, who was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a contractor in March this year.

The officer, Maj. Mohan Singh, was caught on March 14 while accepting the bribe from a complainant as a reward for issuing acceptance letters in favour of the complainant for two contracts.

It was also proved that the officer demanded bribes for issuing acceptance letters or work orders for different contracts, paying bills and for clearing pending bills, among others.

On completion of investigation into the case, the chargesheet was submitted against Maj. Singh under Sections 7 and 13(2) read with 13(1) & (d) of the PC Act, 1988 in the court of special judge, CBI, Shillong.
