Anushka’s discovery

Hi. I am Akira. I work for the Discovery Channel. And I am on a quest to discover the truth behind the compelling story of ‘The Man Who Cannot Die’. This is how Akira Rai introduces herself in the trailer being beamed on your TV screen from Monday night.

But the making of Akira’s documentary will be shown not on Discovery Channel but on the big screen from November 13. For Akira is Anushka Sharma, one of the two leading ladies in Yash Chopra’s last directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

“When Yash Raj Films called us with the proposal that Anushka’s character be portrayed as an employee of Discovery Channel, we instantly agreed. It is a testimony to the value of the Discovery brand. It was an intertwining of the channel itself into the storyline, rarely seen in Hindi cinema,” Rahul Johri, senior vice-president and general manager-South Asia, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, told t2.

A portion of the film was shot in the UK office of Discovery Channel where Anushka is shown to work. In the film, Akira’s goal is to work for the channel. She spies the chance in Shah Rukh Khan who is part of a special unit of the armed forces and goes on to convince the channel to produce a documentary on him, titled ‘The Man Who Cannot Die’. “The audience will see the entire story of the film through Akira’s eyes,” added Johri.
