Fair gesture

Calcutta, Nov. 1: The Trinamul government has decided to hold its annual industrial trade fair in Haldia this year, setting in motion political and administrative measures to control the damage done by the port crisis and send a positive message to industry.

Industries minister Partha Chatterjee said he would hold a meeting in Haldia on November 6 to start preparations for the annual event in December. The industrial trade fair — Bengal Leads — was held on the Milan Mela grounds off EM Bypass last year.

Trinamul sources said Mamata Banerjee had asked party leaders to convince people that the government was working towards improving the industrial climate.

“We have decided to organise the fair at Haldia Bhavan this year. The fair will be held in the end of December. The date is yet to be finalised,” Chatterjee told reporters at Writers’ Buildings today.

“During the Left rule, Haldia Utsav (a cultural event) used to be held. We have decided to take this year’s industrial trade fair to Haldia,” Chatterjee added.
