East Bengal have it easy against BNR

Calcutta: Kingfisher East Bengal maintained their winning run in the Calcutta Football League Premier Division as they thrashed BNR 3-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday. Lalrindika Ralte, Robin Singh and Cavin Lobo were the scorers.

After four matches, East Bengal lead Group A with 12 points.

East Bengal, who didn’t field a single foreigner, dominated the proceedings from the outset, playing numerous passes while building up the attack. Among the players, East Bengal captain Saikat Saha Roy impressed the most on the right flank.

East Bengal took the lead as early as in the 11th minute when Ralte’s right-footer — yes he can score off that foot also — from a Cavin Lobo corner, hit the back of the net.

Trevor James Morgan’s men could have extended the lead in the 40th minute had Robin been on target. But the striker volleyed wide a Baljit Sahni lob.

The red and gold brigade, who play Dempo on Saturday in an I-League match, had to wait till the 61st minute to find their second goal. Robin made amends for his earlier miss by heading home a Saha Roy cross from the right.

Nine minutes later, the reigning CFL champions completed the rout when Lobo scored a brilliant goal. Receiving a ball from Sanju Pradhan, Lobo fooled a defender with a quick movement on the left and surprised the goalkeeper Kissan by suddenly shooting home a right-footer.
