Gandhinagar mayor Mahendrasinh Rana and two Congress councillors have joined the BJP, tilting the balance of power in the municipal body in favour of Gujarat’s ruling party ahead of state polls.
In the April 2011 polls, the Congress had won 18 of the 33 seats and the BJP 15. “We have wrested it (the corporation) from the Congress…” BJP spokesperson I.K. Jadeja said. The Congress said the BJP would not get power as the anti-defection law would kick in. (PTI)
