Jamshedpur, Oct. 31: The bullet-riddled body of a former special police officer was found at Naxalite-hit Galudih under Ghatshila sub-division, about 45km from here, this morning.
It is suspected that though Shiburam Murmu (40), a resident of Paharpur in Ghatshila, was no longer associated with the police department, he used to act as an informer. A card with the words “All India Crime Information Organisation (New Delhi)” written on it was recovered from Murmu’s pocket. He was believed to have come to Galudih for some special work.
According to police, Murmu might have been killed sometime around midnight. The body with two bullet injuries was found at a lonely place in Dangapara, just 25 yards from NH-33, around 8am.
Inspector of Ghatshila police station B.K. Chaturvedi confirmed that the deceased was a former special police officer. “It’s difficult to say at this moment whether it’s the work of Naxalites or any criminal gang. Prima facie, it appears that someone close to the victim is involved,” Chaturvedi added.
Sources said the victim, who was also associated with JMM, had been in Galudih, 8km from Ghatshila, since Tuesday. He was last seen at a tea stall. A police officer speculated that the assailants might have called Murmu to Galudih on the pretext of work.
