Bokaro, Oct. 30: The Bokaro district administration on Tuesday served a notice on Electrosteel Castings Limited (ECL), asking it to vacate 6.82 acres of government land it had encroached upon at Bhagaband village in Siyaljori, where its steel plant is coming up.
This is the second notice served on the plant, which once complete, will produce 2.2MT of steel. Being built with Chinese technology, the plant has faced local ire ever since construction began in 2006.
Tuesday’s notice asked the steel major to vacate the land within a fortnight, failing which strict action will be initiated according to provisions of the IPC.
Siyaljori is located 32km from Bokaro steel city in Chas division.
The notice said it had been found that despite reminders not to encroach upon government land, ECL had not only kept the land in its possession but had even barricaded it with wires and poles, flouting the district administration’s directions.
General manager of ECL R.S. Singh, however, said the company had purchased the land in question and had hence barricaded it. “As the district administration has served us notice to vacate the land, ECL will appeal in court,” he said.
