Boka Junior pip Sanswrang

Kokrajhar, Oct. 29: Boka Junior, Tura edged past Sanswrang Club, Serfanguri 5-4 via tie-breaker to move into the next round of the 15th Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy at Dotma Sports Association ground here.

Locked at 3-3 at the end of stipulated time, the Tura team got the better of Serfanguri in the shootout.

In a thrilling encounter, striker Aditya Basumatary of Sanswrang Club scored the first goal in the 10th minute.

Seven minutes later, Western Marak of Boka Junior drew parity.

In the 33rd minute, Sanswrang took the lead again, as Biron Brahma netted the second goal for the team to take the score to 2-1.

However, their happiness was shortlived as Issaq Sangma scored two quick goals in the 35th and 37th minutes for a 3-2 lead in Tura’s favour.

In the 74th minute, Geremsa Basumatary scored the third goal for Sanswrang Club to level the score to 3-3.

The score line remained thus till the final whistle.

In the tiebreaker, the Tura team held their nerves better than Serfanguri to net five goals as against four by their opposition.

Tomorrow, Tarun Sangha Club, West Bengal will play Kabir Ali, Udalguri.

The meet is organised in memory of martyrs of the Bodoland movement.

Altogether 12 teams, comprising South Eastern Railway, Jharkhand, Indore FC (Madhya Pradesh), Tarun Sangha Club (West Bengal), Food Corporation of India (FCI), Guwahati, Green Valley Sports Club, Guwahati, Assam State Electricity Board, Guwahati, Boka Junior, Tura, Kabir Ali Udalguri, Sanswrang Club, Serfanguri, Global Sports Academy, Gossaigaon and Assam Police Battalion (IRB) Baksa are participating in the championship.

The final will be played on November 9.
