Hasem spills Raiganj plan

Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury

Malda, Oct. 29: Junior health minister Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury said his boss Ghulam Nabi Azad had told him that the Centre would buy plots directly from owners in Raiganj if the Bengal government did not make land available for the AIIMS-like hospital.

Abu Hasem, who spoke over phone from Delhi, said he met Azad after yesterday’s swearing-in and discussed the hospital project. “He (Azad) told me if the state failed to acquire land for the hospital, plots would be directly bought from owners. The health minister has assured me the super-speciality institute will come up in Raiganj, ” Abu Hasem said.

The land for the hospital has become a sore point between the Congress and Trinamul. Deepa Das Munshi, the Raiganj MP, wants the hospital to come up there. The Trinamul-led government is keen to build it in Kalyani, Nadia.
