Shillong, Oct. 26: The trial of jailed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) chairman Champion R. Sangma is likely to commence from next month after a local court today upheld the plea to frame charges against the former Meghalaya deputy superintendent of police.
The hearing on the framing of charges against Champion was held on October 10, but the court of deputy commissioner (judicial) East Khasi Hills, B. Giri, had reserved its order for today.
“The court has passed the order rejecting the plea of the defence as prima facie case was found on the charges levelled against the accused,” public prosecutor I.C. Jha said.
The court has fixed November 8 for framing of charges against the accused, following which trial would commence, he added.
