UBI net rises

Calcutta, Oct. 26: The United Bank of India (UBI) has reported a 16 per cent growth in net profit for the second quarter ended September at Rs 144.64 crore against Rs 124.77 crore in the same period a year ago.

Interest income grew 18 per cent to Rs 2,290.53 crore, while total income increased to Rs 2,532.39 crore from Rs 2,101.51 crore in the year-ago period.

Chairman and managing director Bhaskar Sen said the bank had performed reasonably well despite a challenging economic scenario, but rising gross non-performing assets were a matter of concern. Gross NPA stood at 3.88 per in the quarter ended September cent against 3.48 per cent a year ago and 3.47 per cent in the June quarter. The net NPA ratio stood at 1.95 per cent compared with 1.77 per cent in the first quarter.
