Imphal, Oct. 25: The police department has disbanded its football team along with one coach of Manipur Police Sports Club on charges of match-fixing. The director-general of police, Y. Joykumar Singh, yesterday issued an order to disband the 21-member team.
The move came after the police team lost to Southern Sporting Union by 1-9 in the last match of Manipur State League on October 23. The players include two assistant sub-inspectors and three havildars of Manipur Rifles and India Reserve Battalion.
In his order, Joykumar Singh, who is also the chairman of the club, has asked all the players and the coach to return to Manipur Police Training Centre, where they were attached.
