Abduction

Shillong, Oct. 19: Three persons were abducted from two locations in Meghalaya.

Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) rebels today abducted two ginger dealers from a marketplace in Garo hills region.

Police said Inadul Islam and Mosa Bapari were kidnapped by six armed GNLA militants at gunpoint from Damal Asim market, under Dadenggre police station in West Garo Hills district.

In another incident, two businessmen, who were abducted from the same location, was set free unharmed. The police suspect the rebels had kidnapped the duo for ransom. Personnel from the Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and Meghalaya’s Special Weapons and Tactics were sent to trace the abducted businessmen.

In another incident, on October 13 night, three armed goons abducted coal trader Jemiter Mawbon from his house at Kyllon Mathai village in West Khasi Hills. The area is close to Shallang, a coal-mining belt. The police, who came to know about the incident today, said the goons have demanded Rs 50 lakh for his release.
