Bail denied to Park St rape accused

The division bench of Justice Ashim Kumar Roy and Justice Dipak Saha Ray on Friday rejected the bail plea of Naser Khan and Sumit Bajaj, two of the accused in the Park Street rape.

Earlier this week, the division bench of Justice Kanwaljit Singh Ahluwalia and Justice Toufique Uddin had refused to rule on Naserís bail petition.

A 37-year-old woman who came out of a Park Street nightclub was allegedly raped inside a car on the night of February 5. Naser and Sumit were arrested on February 18. Kadir, the prime accused, is still absconding.

Beacon use: The high court on Friday ordered transport secretary B.P. Gopalika to get a government notification mentioning who is eligible to use beacons in the city published in the front page of leading newspapers. The court also instructed Calcutta police to carry out a drive to get hold of people misusing beacons and submit a report on their action after the courtís Puja vacation.
