School council axe

Burdwan, Oct. 19: A district school council chairman was removed from his post yesterday by a government order that did not specify the reason.

Sources said the decision to remove Swapan Ghosh was prompted by a teacher’s complaint that accused Ghosh of passing lewd comments on her in August.

The district inspector of schools said he did not know why Ghosh was suspended.

However, the secretary of the Trinamul-backed education cell, Swapan Ghosal, alleged: “There were six members in the district primary education council, he never consulted any of them. He used to take whimsical decisions.”

Ghosh, who would be replaced by high school teacher Debasish Nag, sniffed a controversy to malign him.
