Shuttlers leave for 6-day tourney

Guwahati, Oct. 18: A 13-member Assam squad will vie for top honours at the all-India sub-junior ranking badminton tournament to be held at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh from October 22 to 27.

“The squad, comprising nine boys and four girls, left for Visakhapatnam today. We expect a good performance from the team,” Omar Rashid, secretary of Assam Badminton Association, said.

Boys’ team: Orijit Chaliha, Rituporna Bora, Syed Farhaz Hussain, Nishiraj Bharali, Angad Borchetia, Ayan Borchetia, Rajshekhar Das, Swarnaraj Bora and Saurav Das.

Girls’: Ashmita Chaliha, Chimran Kalita, Nikita Bharali and Aakansha Khound.

Karate trials

The directorate of sports & youth welfare, Assam, will organise a karate selection at Rudra Singha Sports Complex, Dispur, on October 20, to select a squad for the under-19 national school karate championship at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, from October 31 to November 4.

According to the United Karate-Do Association, the players should be born on or after January 1, 1994.
