Traffic curbs for festive 4 days

Ranchi police hopes to tackle traffic on the four days of Durga Puja with some stringent curbs and extensive arrangements.

The new traffic measures, which will come into effect from October 21 (Saptami) to October 24 (Dashami), are aimed at ensuring that pandal-hoppers face no hassle.

While entry of vehicles has been restricted on certain roads, spots have been designated for people to park their vehicles and visit pandals. Fifty additional constables will be deputed to manage flow of vehicles.

No vehicle will be allowed on Main Road while those coming from Doranda will have to park their cars at Sainik Bazar and go on a round of Chandra Shekhar Azad Puja near Albert Ekka Chowk, Bharatiya Yuvak Sangh at Bakri Bazar, Rajasthan Mitra Mandal in Upper Bazar, Bihar Club Puja and Sangram Club Puja — both near Kutchery Chowk.

Private vehicles and autos headed to Kutchery Chowk from Doranda will be routed through Sujata Chowk-Bahu Bazar-Karbala Chowk, Plaza Chowk and Survey Ground. They cannot enter Kantatoli Chowk.

However, important links like Ratu Road, Kanke Road, Harmu Bypass Road, Bariatu Road and Hazaribagh-Kokar Road will remain open for commuters coming to the city. But the vehicles will be allowed only up to a certain point. Vehicles coming from Kokar on Hazaribagh Road have to park near Plaza Theatre while those arriving from Namkum to Kantatoli have to halt near Kantatoli.

Other parking spots include near Sadhu Maida (Kokar), near Ram Lakhan Singh College, Patel Chowk, Zakir Hussain Park, near Sadar Hospital, Ramgarh Taxi Stand, Survey ground, near Sainik Bazar and Ranchi Lake.

“We have made extensive arrangements to smoothly regulate traffic from Saptami to Dashmi in the state capital.,” traffic SP Chandra Shekhar Prasad said.

He added that additional policemen would be deployed at all important points of the city during the four days of Puja. “Usually 80 personnel man traffic. We will deploy 50 more,” Prasad said.
