Poll buzz before vacation

Some students’ organisations launched membership drives at Patna University over the last two days to accelerate the union election campaign.

The RJD students’ wing on Thursday organised the drive at Patna College where former chief minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad’s elder son, Tej Pratap, was supposed to address the new members. However, he failed to turn up.

The students’ union election at Patna University will be held on December 11 after 28 years. The students’ union election at Patna University will be held for 23 posts according to the recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee.

The chairman of the organising committee for the Patna University Student Union elections, U.K. Sinha, said: “Direct elections will be held for five key posts at the university-level, including president, vice-president, general secretary, joint secretary and treasurer, while executive committee members will be elected according to the college and postgraduate faculty there. Filing of nominations would start on November 21 followed by scrutiny and withdrawal.”

The executive committee members will be elected on the basis of students’ strength.
