Three promising swimmers from the steel city came back home with eight medals from the All India School Nationals.
ISC schools from across the country took part in the meet held at Valsad (Gujarat) from October 8 to 10. Karan Rebello, S. Darshana and Revati Shaw — all belonging to Jamshedpur’s Tata Steel Training Centre — blazed the Atul Vidyalaya swimming pool with their swift strokes.
While Karan, a student of Loyola School, slotted home three gold medals in 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 50m butterfly, his DBMS English School counterpart Darshana came first in 100m butterfly, 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle.
Revati Shaw from Carmel Junior College won two bronze medals, in 100 breaststroke and 50m butterfly, to round off the tally for Jharkhand.
The swimmers, who train under experienced coach P.N. Rai of the Tata centre, had taken part in several inter-school swimming competitions held under the banner of Jamshedpur Old Girls and Guys Association. The three have also proved their mettle in regional school swimming events.
Training centre in-charge Feroze Khan expressed happiness about the achievement of the young talents. “They have done exceptionally well and are all set to go up the ladder. They are very swift and natural swimmers,” he added.
Set up over five years ago at JRD Tata Sports Complex, the swimming pool is open for Tata Steel employees and also non-employees.
Several school students have enrolled their names with the training centre run by the steel major’s sports department.
