Mangaldoi, Oct. 15: Green Valley SC, Guwahati annexed the 33rd Amba Medhi all-india invitation football tournament title, defeating Samaleswari Sporting FC, Sambalpur, Odisha, 5-4 via tiebreakers in the final at Mangaldoi Stadium here this afternoon.
Gokul Urang’s squandering shot during tiebreaker cost the Odisha side the title.
Suresh Kujur, Umesh Kujur, Ambika Lakra and Sekhar Sarkar netted their shots for the Odisha side while Sanjeeva Rongpi, Chayaram Basumatary, Michel Lucky Kelechukwu, Sk. Shanawaz Alam and Maneswar Mushahary ruffled the net for Green Valley.
Sangkha Marandi of Samaleswari caused the first adrenaline rush in the fifth minute with a powerful shot from the left flank to be ably saved by glovesman Sukhdev Ghosh who also foiled another attempt by Urang in the 30th minute.
For Green Valley, George Prince and Kelechukwu’s attempts in the 20th and 61st minutes missed the woodwork by a whisker.
N. Janardhan of Green Valley was adjudged the Best Player of the Tournament.
