Police on Sunday seized Rs 2.37 crore, a diamond necklace worth Rs 1 crore and a car from a Barasat flat allegedly belonging to land broker Susanta Das, who had been arrested a few days ago along with two CMDA employees in connection with a scam.
Das, along with Haradhan Roy, a CMDA clerk, and Aloke Chatterjee, a deputy director at the agency, allegedly ran a racket of illegally selling government land in Salt Lake and its adjoining areas.
The trio, now in police custody, had been picked up following a complaint by a Mumbai realtor, one of their alleged victims. Police said the flat at Larica Housing Complex on Nilgunge Road belonged to Das. Along with the cash, jewellery and the car, several forged property documents, too, were seized.
“The racket used to keep all their booty at the Barasat flat,” said an officer.
