Calcutta: John Inverarity, Australia’s national selection panel chief, believes that the Champions League T20 is hampering the country’s first Test preparation against South Africa.
With most of Australia’s key players — Ben Hilfenhaus, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Johnson, Shane Watson, Michael Hussey and David Warner — are on Champions League duty in South Africa, it means that they will be having only one Sheffield Shield match before the first Test, which is scheduled to start on November 9.
“It is anything but an ideal preparation,” Inverarity was quoted as saying in an Australian daily. “You just have to do your bestů But, having the Champions League where it is now is not in the best interests of good preparation for the first Test.”
Inverarity also revealed Brad Haddin’s position as incumbent Test ’keeper will be decided within days.
