Morning Star triumph

Kopili cup

Nagaon, Oct. 12: Morning Star Football Club, Diphu lifted the KHEP Neepco Kopili Cup football tournament trophy, defeating defending champions 119 Territorial Army 4-1 in the final at the Garampani Sports Associationís Umrangsu ground in Dima Hasao district today.

In a keenly contested first half, Jim Engti put the Diphu outfit ahead with a goal in the 43rd minute. At the breather, Morning Star managed to maintain their 1-0 lead. He struck again in the 61st minute to consolidate the lead before Lalhmangaiha reduced the margin for the holders in the 77th minute.

However, Sanni Saluiaman restored the two-goal margin, converting a penalty kick in the 78th minute. Benzamin Henri fired in the fourth goal for Morning Star in the 87th minute. Jim Engti was named Man of the Match and Sanni Saluiaman the Best Player of the tournament. Attending the prize distribution ceremony, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council chief executive member Debajit Thousen said they would scout for talented players and groom them .

Meeting: An emergent general meeting of the Assam Kickboxing Association will be held at Loharghat Govt MV School near here on October 20. The meeting will discuss the national selection trial for the 4th Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games and the 6th state inter-district meet.
