Police have not been able to contact for over two weeks a Tiljala businessman, who is believed to have gone into hiding with his family after being threatened by an extortionist.
The businessman, who has not been identified for security reasons, had approached the cops after receiving a note wrapped around a bullet on September 12 asking him to cough up Rs 6 lakh or face dire consequences. The note was signed “S.K. Kadir”.
“It was evident from the letter that the sender was keeping track of the movements of the businessman’s family members, especially his teenaged son,” said an officer of the detective department.
A week later, the leather and paint emulsions dealer, received a threat call while watching a film. The next day, he received another call. The caller told him the whereabouts of his son. The family went into hiding after that.
“We have been trying to get in touch with the businessman but he is not answering our calls. Officers from the local police station visited his house on GJ Khan Road but found it locked,” said a cop.
