Before dhaak beats reverberate in the air heralding the arrival of Durga, build up the festive mood with some soulful music.
Keeping true to its tradition of hosting a special entertainment programme in the run-up to Durga Puja every year, Telco Recreation Club has lined up a musical night on Sharodotsav for Jamshedpur residents on October 13. Sidhgora Town Hall has also planned a soiree from 6pm on that day.
The Telco club has invited Symphony, a Ranchi band of seven, to perform at the musical extravaganza especially meant for the people of Telco. Music lovers will be spoilt for choice as the evening will be dedicated to old Hindi melodies from 50s, 60s and 70s, ghazals and sufi songs. This apart, city-based singer Sujan Chatterjee will also entertain the audience.
The gala will start from 6.30pm.
“Sufi is an offbeat genre, which we want to explore at the musical night — not the modified sufi music as you hear in Hindi films, but the original ones composed by Sufi poets Hafiz and Rumi. We will also sing ghazals and of course, evergreen Hindi numbers,” said Mukul Roy, lead musician of Symphony.
Sidhgora Town Hall, on the other hand, has roped in Mohammad Aziz, a playback singer who delivered a few hits in 80s and 90s, to regale the audience. Yashita Yashpal Sharma of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa fame will also perform along with a Mumbai dance group.
