Nikhil Mehra

Sport is vrooming back in Shantanu & Nikhil’s design scheme. After showing a sporty line back in 2010 at the Lakme Fashion Week, the Delhi-based brothers are all set to dress the pit girls at 2012 Formula 1 Airtel Indian Grand Prix, starting October 26 in the Buddh circuit.

“If you look at glamorous sports, F1 is right there at the top. There is something about cars and women… it is just the perfect combination,” Nikhil Mehra told t2 over phone.

On their designboard is a dress in “flamboyant red” with band collars and a zipper. “This dress is inspired by the race itself. The silhouette is fitted and it is a short dress. The band collar was inspired by the driver’s suit. The colour palette being red does the trick for us… it is race-y and suits the personality of the sport. It is also sleek, much like the cars. We wanted to make the silhouette chic and glamorous. It is sophisticated at the same time. The race references are the white lines that cut across the dress, giving it the power and the aggression that the sport has,” said Nikhil. Accessorising the sexy number are strappy wedges in patent red (see sketch on right).

So, which race icon would they like to dress? “We would love to dress Michael Schumacher! These guys are in great shape and would make for great models. We would like to mix and match… do a street style… these guys are really about the tracks… we will mix sport with luxury,” said Nikhil, who recently drove an RX Spider (Ferrari)!

Red will not just remain restricted to the race tracks and pit girls, as the designer duo plan to explore red in their future collections as well with the holiday season drawing near.

Nikhil’s Top five classic sport-meets-fashion combos

● Beige jacket paired with a white collared T-shirt and a pair of jeans.

● A white shirt with interesting badges on it, teamed with khaki pants.

● Jackets — rugged and formal. A leather jacket will make a rugged statement; a double-breasted one will have a formal effect.

● Colour-blocked racy T-shirt with numbers on it. You could wear it with faded jeans and moccasins.

● Accessorised with sunglasses, caps, hats and belts.

rimzim dadu

Ikat-like textures opened the show for the talented Rimzim Dadu on Day 4 of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in Delhi. Cropped tops, high-waist skirts, tunic dresses, peplums, midi dresses, skinny pants... it seemed a totally trendy summer for My Village (Rimzim’s label) with her signature textured twist of course.

The catwalk saw some intricate criss-cross detailing, cut-outs and shimmery sequins, plastic-y textures and many more super-dramatic 3D threadwork. Her peplum pants and the quirky bouquet of flowers that appeared on the tiny dresses are to kill for.
